Biodiversity Opportunity Areas

BOAs represent a targeted landscape-scale approach to conserving biodiversity in Hampshire. They identify opportunities for habitat creation and restoration where resources can be focused to have the greatest positive impact for wildlife.

Landscape-scale nature conservation involves identifying opportunities to expand, link and buffer key sites, helping wildlife to adapt to the challenges of climate change and other pressures.

BOAs were identified through extensive mapping work carried out by the Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC) in consultation with a wide range of biodiversity partners.

The overview map (right) shows the 41 BOAs in Hampshire. Statements have been produced for each BOA to indicate the priorities for that area. Detailed individual BOA maps are available to download (as large pdfs), or the GIS layer of all the Hampshire BOAs can be requested directly from HBIC.
