Data underpins the entire biodiversity programme in Hampshire. The Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC) co-ordinates the data held by many different organisations. This helps to ensure that the information is used most effectively. There are more than 7,000 detailed site records, 500,000 species records and 80,000 mapped habitat parcels on the HBIC database. Hampshire Biodversity Information Centre also hold over 1.5 million species records provided by other orgnisations. HBIC services the data needs of the Hampshire biodiversity programme. The Centre is funded by a consortium of partners and hosted by Hampshire County Council. HBIC is being developed with a view to it becoming an accredited node within the National Biodiversity Network (NBN). HBIC will ensure that all data collected conforms to NBN standards.
