Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council

• A landscape and Biodiversity Strategy will be produced in 2004. This will provide a strategic framework for biodiversity conservation and guide the integration of the Hampshire BAP into the Borough Council's policies, procedures and work programmes.
  
  
• 4 sites in Chineham and 1 in Basingstoke were declared as statutory Local Nature Reserves in 2003.
  
  
• Funding was provided to the Hampshire Heathlands Project to clear invasive scrub from Newtown Common, one of the few remaining areas of heathland in the Borough
  
  
• The Borough Council has adopted a Tree Warden Scheme to provide training and support for volunteers to undertake various tree and woodland related activities in local areas.
