- In Hampshire, 34 new 10-year agreements specifically aimed at biodiversity conservation came into DEFRA’s Countryside Stewardship/Environmentally Sensitive Area schemes in 2003. In addition there were 8 renewal 10-year agreements.
- The 2003 agreements will fund the management, restoration or recreation of several UK priority habitats, including:
almost 200 km of ancient or species rich hedgerows
85 hectares of cereal field margins
30 km of chalk rivers
95 hectares of coastal and floodplain grazing marsh
9 hectares of fens
3 hectares of lowland beech and yew woodland
294 hectares of lowland calcareous grassland
104 hectares of lowland heathland
338 hectares of lowland meadows
41 hectares of lowland wood pasture & parkland
